New photographs - The Lake District
04th November 2010 - 0 comments

October can bring all kinds of weather to the Lake District, often in the same day.
On a recent trip to Grasmere we were very lucky with three dry and sunny days out of four. It certainly threatened to rain, but I think an angry sky can make a picture. You can see a selection of pictures from Grasmere and Helm Crag in the UK Landscapes gallery.
New Photographs - The Pyramids of Giza
01st November 2010 - 0 comments

I've added a new section to the Gallery following a recent trip to the Pyramids of Giza.

It was a truly breathtaking experience to walk among the Pyramids and see them with my own eyes. Hopefully the photographs will go some way to convey their splendour!

It was interesting to see how close they are to Cairo. The city actually surrounds the Giza site.

We were lucky enough to get tickets to go inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu. To limit access and therefore erosion damage, visitor numbers are kept to 300 per day. We couldn't help humming the Indiana Jones theme tune as we climbed and stooped our way to the heart of the Pyramid and the main burial chamber. Unfortunately no cameras are allowed inside the pyramid so we left only with memories.

At the main viewpoint there was no shortage of tourists lining up to have their pictures taken 'holding' the Pyramids. I didn't indulge, but I couldn't resist a snap of one group composing their shot...
